Ashes Cricket 2009 Game Review
61
Ah well I had some free time , so I thought why not write a review about the latest cricket game from codemasters. Well before I start of the review, let me introduce myself. I'm not a reviewer or a critic , I'm just a normal gamer who likes to play games. So I reckon my review would be quite a lot different from those written by those review people. Well anyways , lets see what the game has got.
The game has pretty decent system requirements and should work on most of the average systems. The game ran quite perfectly on a laptop with x3100 on low settings.
Talking about the graphics , the game has some very good graphics with almost accurate models of the players of the English and Australian cricket teams. The game , maybe due to copyright reasons, does not feature licensed players of other countries except England and Australia. This is one of the drawback of the game , if you aren't from England or Australia. The rest of the teams are made up of non resembling players and their names have been messed up due to copyright issues. Ofcourse you can edit the players, but it would be quite tiresome to edit each and every player name apart from the two Ashes playing teams. But well , none of the cricket games out there have all licensed players of all countries. So I'm not complaining.
Now lets get to the gameplay. The game implements a total different control system approach as compared to EA's Cricket games. Ashes Cricket 2009 lets a quite lot of stuff that you couldn't do before in a cricket game. Batting is quite interesting , you can choose from a huge range of shots. Front foot , back foot , advance down the pitch , Loft , defence attack and a combination of all. And the w,a,s,d keys allow you to choose the direction of the shots. It makes you feel in complete control of the batting. While taking runs , you can take a dive if you feel that you're not gonna make it to the crease.
The bowling controls are also quite detailed. You can bowl every bowling style you can imagine. You can even bowl the doosra. Also the game lets you control the fielding by letting you decide to which end to throw the ball. Also in case of a catch situation , you have to press the enter key at the right time or you will miss the catch.
So basically the game puts you in full control of batting, bowling and fielding.
There are also stamina and confidence meters for both bowlers and batsman that decide how they will perform.
In this one Shane Warne joins the commentary team. The commentary as a whole is nothing new.
While the game mostly focuses on the Ashes tournament it also let you play a ODI , T20 or a Test match. Another great feature is the Legends Training , where you will be trained on how to play and face every situation possible. So even if you have a fair amount of idea about cricket you can play the Legends Training and become sort of pro in cricket.
There are lots of ICC trophies to be unlocked like most sixes in ODI , most wickets etc.
All in all if you are a cricket fan and you loved Brian Lara Cricket or EA's Cricket '07 then this game is a must have for you.
As a cricket fan I'd give this game 7/10. As a unbiased person I'd give it a 5/10
So the average comes out to be a good 6/10.Enjoy.
